Update... 
minor update this morning with mostly cosmetic changes to the grids. 
Should not see much precipitation before this evening so dropped pop 
over the plains to near zero. Should be a mostly sunny start to the 
day followed by increasing afternoon clouds and showers developing 
first over southwest Montana. 


Discussion... 
Saturday through Monday...a persistent upper level trough will 
continue to reside over the northern Pacific coast. Southwest flow 
aloft existing this system will continue to bring wave after wave 
of upper level disturbances into the area. These shortwave troughs 
should help amplify shower and thunderstorms by giving upper level 
support to surface based convection. This should increase the 
intensity and coverage of any activity that that would naturally 
occur with decent precipitable water values also ejected from the 
closed low along with near average seasonal temperatures. Shower 
activity should be limited to the mountains of southwest Montana 
this afternoon...before water vapor aloft increase and the along 
with the potential for wide spread showers and scattered 
thunderstorms Sunday and Monday. Have limited the amount 
thunderstorms forecast for the overnight hours Sunday night. Some 
isolated nocturnal thunderstorms will be possible however the lack 
of lower level support for stronger convection once the boundary 
level develops should limit widespread thunderstorms...while 
shower activity continues. Suk 


Monday night through Saturday...no significant changes in the medium 
range. Unsettled conditions will persist through the period as the 
area will be under the influence of a broad upper trof with multiple 
shortwaves rotating through the flow. Southwest flow aloft will 
continue to bring moisture, instability, and lift into southwest 
Montana resulting in the development of afternoon thunderstorms that 
will spread north and east across the plains through the period. 
Models agree on this overall picture but differ on specifics 
regarding precipitation amounts and locations of heavier rain. 
Temperatures will remain near or slightly below seasonal averages.

Aviation... 
updated 1200z. 
Southwest flow aloft will continue to bring moisture and instability 
to the area. The airmass will become unstable after 18z with showers 
and thunderstorms developing over southwest Montana and then 
spreading slowly north and east through early evening. Convective 
activity should end by 06z. Winds will be generally light today. VFR 
conditions prevail with MVFR conditions possible in the vicinity of 
showers and/or thunderstorms.
