Short term...today through Sunday...a short wave trough and 
associated weak clod front will move through the area this 
morning. This wave was located along the Oregon-California border 
at 2 am MDT. Not enough moisture with this feature to make it a 
significant weather maker...so kept probability of precipitation low. But even with that 
said...there is just enough instability to mention isolated 
thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening in the areas where the 
chance of precipitation is high enough to mention...which is 15 
percent and higher. A stronger short wave trough...along with 
it/S associated cold front...will move through the area 
Sunday....and this one has more moisture. Isolated thunderstorms 
are again in the forecast...and confidence is higher Sunday. Raised 
probability of precipitation just slightly above what was already in the forecast simply 
to show increased confidence in the system. High temperatures today and 
overnight lows tonight will be near normal today...with highs 
tomorrow slightly below normal. The wave on Sunday will produce 
0.10 to 0.20 inches of rain in the mountains. Winds will follow 
typical diurnal patters because the cold fronts associated with 
the short wave troughs will move through mainly during the morning 
hours...turning winds to the northwest at about the usual time. 


Long term...Sunday night through Friday...a broad upper level 
trough will remain draped over the Pacific northwest through the 
forecast period. With a shortwave trough moving from central Idaho 
into Montana on Sunday night...Monday will be much drier ahead of 
another shortwave for Monday night. This second shortwave...with a 
deeper moisture tap...will spread showers into southeast Oregon by Monday 
night...and then across the entire area on Tuesday. Scattered 
thunderstorms will be possible Tuesday afternoon and night as the 
passing shortwave trough will provide steeper lapse rates and a 
more unstable atmosphere over the intermountain west. Temperatures will 
also drop to 8-10 degrees below normal. Wednesday and beyond...we 
will be under moist northwest flow aloft as the mean trough axis 
shifts slowly to our east. Expect a chance of showers mainly over 
the mountains through the end of the forecast period with 
temperatures gradually rising back to near normal values by the 
weekend.

Aviation...VFR with areas of middle and high level clouds. Chance 
for showers and thunderstorms to develop over the higher terrain 
of southeast Oregon and SW Idaho after 18z. West to northwest surface 
winds up to 10 kts. Southwest winds aloft will average 15 kts at 
10k feet mean sea level. 


Sunday outlook...increasing clouds from the west. Showers will 
develop and spread into eastern Oregon by late morning...and into 
SW Idaho by the early afternoon. Scattered thunderstorms are 
possibly in the afternoon through evening hours. Snow levels will 
be at 7500-8500 feet mean sea level.
