 Lake Wind Advisory  Statement as of 2:31 am EST on January 8, 2009

... Lake Wind Advisory in effect from noon today to 5 PM EST this
afternoon...

The National Weather Service in Jacksonville has issued a lake
Wind Advisory... which is in effect from noon today to 5 PM EST
this afternoon.

Moderate westerly winds aloft are forecast to reach the surface
from around noon through 5 PM EST... with sustained winds around
20 mph and gusts upwards of 35 mph.

A lake Wind Advisory is issued when sustained winds of 20 to
25 mph or gusts of 30 to 39 mph are expected. Small boats will be
especially prone to capsizing. Boaters in the advisory area
should avoid open water and stay close to shore in wind protected
inlets. High profile vehicles should use extra caution when
traveling as well.

 Fire Weather Warning  Statement as of 3:10 am EST on January 8, 2009

... Red flag warning remains in effect from noon today to 5 PM EST
this afternoon due to long durations of low rh and strong winds...

breezy west winds will be near 20 mph with higher gusts today. Rh
values will fall below 35 percent for 4 to 5 hours. Minimum values
will be 25 to 30 percent.

A red flag warning means that critical fire weather conditions
are either occurring now... or will shortly. A combination of
strong winds... low relative humidity... and warm temperatures will
create explosive fire growth potential.

Area forecast discussion...updated
National Weather Service Jacksonville Florida
925 am EST Thursday Jan 8 2009

Update...large scale trough dominates the eastern Continental U.S. While at the
surface...high pressure covers the Gulf and Florida Peninsula. Next cold
front is moving through tenn valley into north Georgia. Morning sounding shows
very dry air above surface. Combine air mass with a low level jet
(35-50kt) over S Georgia expected to dive into NE Florida and the front
sinks southward...strong winds should easily mix down by late morning.
Wind grids have been updated and lake wind advection is already in
place.

&&

Aviation...
VFR conds with gusty west/SW winds ahead of next cold frontal passage.

&&

Marine...
west winds already at 15g20kts at the local buoys and further
increase to small craft levels expected today ahead of the cold
front. Small craft a slam dunk for the offshore waters but will be
close for the nearshore specially about 10-20nm out. Conditions peak
tonight then decrease toward Friday morning with lighter winds/seas
expected on Friday.

&&

Fire weather...
gusty west/SW winds will make for dangerous fire conditions this
afternoon and red flag warning in place a good call...rh's may be a
bit marginal across portions of southeastern Georgia but will be close enough to
continue red flags in place.
